Katie Diamond
Limón
Biography:
Katie Diamond holds a BFA from Cal Arts and her training includes performing the works of George Balanchine with the Contra Costa Ballet and studying on scholarship at the Joffrey Ballet and London Contemporary Dance Schools. Katie joined the Limón Dance Company in 2005, with whom has performed the works of Jose Limón, Doris Humphrey, Lar Lubovitch, Jiri Kylian, Anna Sokolow, and Clay Taliaferro among others, and is dancing in the Met Opera's 2008 production of Mark Morris' Orfeo et Euridice. She has taught ballet and modern master classes as well as Limón repertory at various dance studios and universities in California, New York, Florida, and Massachusetts.Class Description:
This class uses the principles of the Humphrey/Limon technique to approach the mechanics of contemporary movement. Working with fall-recovery, suspension, and succession, the focus of the class is on using gravity and opposition to expand the range of dynamics. With these skills, we investigate rhythm, momentum and movement definition. Using a clear alignment, the goal of this class is to create an environment where the dancer finds a way to move through space with sense of weight and freedom.
