    Black Kat

    Waacking// Ladies of Hip Hop

    Biography:

Born and raised in Montreal, Black Kat has been dancing since her tender years. Known in the Montreal dance community for her influence in the underground scene, it’s in 2005 that she starts waacking. In 2003, she is introduced to waacking in New York, which sparked an interest, but when Shock-A-Lock, renown dancer, introduces her to Tyrone Proctor, it became a lover affair between her and the dance. She became one of his first avid students and after studying under him for an intensive year, she becomes, in 2006, the first waacking teacher in Montral. Blak Kat will be the sole creator of the Montreal waacking community and in 2008 she will help produce the first waacking competition of its kind at ‘Festival Bust A Move’, judged by Tyrone “The Bone” Proctor. In 2009 when IHOW (Imperial House of Waacking) was created, Blak Kat becomes the Mother of the Canadian Chapter and adds her most rigorous students, that are now known internationally in the waacking scene. In 2007, she travels to Barcelona to teach at the “LA JAM B Festival”. She is asked to judge New York’s popular competition, ‘Step Ya Game Up’ (waacking) in 2010 and in 2012, she judges the waacking category at the ‘Festival Bust A Move’. Many have traveled to Montreal to study under her, which gave her the opportunity to travel to Hong Kong to teach and judge at “WAACKING AINT WAACK”. Recently Blak Kat was asked for a second year in a row to be a part of the “HOT MESS WAACKING BOOT CAMP”. She is a driving force in the waacking scene and she owes it to her teacher and mentor Tyrone Procto. Blak Kat is very passionate about waacking, she loves everything from the era it was born in, to the music it was developed on, to the movements of the dance. But most importantly, she is a dancer, a mover and remarkable teacher.
