Socanomics// Ladies of Hip Hop Faculty

    Biography:

Selena is a professional dancer, personal trainer & fitness instructor and pageant coach. After graduating from Rutgers University, Selena became a radio producer on 98.7 Kiss FM for several years before finding her way back into the commercial dance world. Her credits include Janelle Monae, Pharell, Alison Hinds, Konshens, Busta Rhymes, Saturday Night Live, BET Black Girls Rock and she is currently one of the Brooklynettes, a team of diverse, cutting- edge, technically-trained dancers for the NBA Brooklyn Nets. In 2012, she won Miss Black USA and became the first Antiguan-American to capture the national title. She also founded Socanomics in 2012, which is a company focused on bringing pan-Caribbean culture to the mainstream through dance workshops, fitness classes, performances, events and more.

    Class Description:

Everyone wants to know what they’ll experience in a Socanomics dance class! They are high-energy and high-powered rhythmic experiences, accompanied by Soca music, the sweet sounds of the Caribbean. This class is rooted in the spirit of carnival and it fuses many Afro styles, including soca dance, dancehall, west African and house. Socanomics classes start with a warm-up that consists of isolations and follow-along movement to prepare you for the final choreographed routine. Socanomics choreography dynamically bridges a gap between afro-movement and commercial hip-hop styles, allowing you as a performer and mover to focus on musicality and articulation of the body. Socanomics truly provides students with a new and exciting way to move! Come & Dance! Sweat! Jump! Wing your waist! Learn great choreography! & Have an amazing Experience!
