    Courtney Hirsch

    Jazz / Theater

    Biography:

Courtney made her dance debut as a precocious 3- year-old performing to Barry Manilow's Copacabana in a ruffled magenta leotard. Since then, she studied jazz, contemporary, lyrical, ballet, tap, house, and gymnastics throughout New York City. Courtney is a New York native and graduated from New York University with an M.A. in Counseling Psychology and a B.S. in Communications. She worked professionally in healthcare, higher education, career counseling, and social work. She is also a freelance pastry chef and unapologetic cat lady. Courtney is a passionate proponent of dance as a medium for expression, community, confidence, well-being, and balance — especially for those who pursue it as a hobby. Courtney has been a member of the Peridance community since 2009 is thrilled to be joining the faculty.

    Class Description:

Courtney's class begins with a dynamic warm-up that reinforces proper alignment, technique, and muscle memory — and strengthens dancers' stamina and athleticism. Dancers move across the floor to expand their use of space, and practice turns and leaps. Courtney's choreography pulls from different genres to foster dancers' versatility and musicality. Dancers are encouraged to explore personal interpretations of the choreography and find moments of playfulness and sincerity in the movement. Courtney's class is a supportive, encouraging space that welcomes dancers of all backgrounds and experience levels.
