    Bio

Marlena Wolfe was born and raised in Warren, Ohio. In May 2007, she graduated summa cum laude and received a B.F.A. in Dance from Marymount Manhattan College under the direction of Katie Langan. Upon graduation, she was awarded the highest honor from the MMC Dance Department, a Gold Key, for excellence in her field. While at Marymount, she had the opportunity to perform the works of many notable choreographers including Martha Graham, Twyla Tharp, Jacqulyn Buglisi, Doug Varone, and Robert Battle.

Professionally, Marlena has danced for Mimi Garrard, Twyla Tharp, and Robert Battle. She was a member of Robert Battle's company Battleworks for four years and performed Battle's works across the States, including a notable solo Ella that Battle created on her in 2007. She assisted Battle in the creation of many works and staged his works on colleges (MMC, NYU, Purchase College), conservatories (The Juilliard School, Peridance Capezio Center’s Certificate Program), and companies nationally and internationally (River North Dance Chicago and Introdans, respectively).

Marlena has also worked with the American Dance Legacy Initiative to develop a methodology for teaching Battle-style technique and repertory. She has taught master classes at various colleges (MMC, NYU), summer programs (Earl Mosley Institute for the Arts, Young Dancemakers Company), and conservatories (Alvin Ailey Pre-Professional Program, The Joffrey Ballet School/Jazz and Contemporary Trainee Division, American Ballet Theatre Summer Intensive Programs). In the Spring 2011, Marlena returned to her alma mater, Marymount, as an adjunct instructor for her expertise as a rehearsal director.

In May 2012, Marlena was featured on the cover of Dance Informa. She is currently a member of Camille A. Brown & Dancers as a guest artist and has assisted Ms. Brown with her latest commissions for Complexions Contemporary Ballet and The Juilliard School. She is the Artistic Director of her company, the Wolfe project, and most recently collaborated with Igal Perry and created two original sections of choreography for Mr. Perry’s production of the Nutcracker: a Contemporary Look (2012) at Peridance Capezio Center. She is Peridance’s Certificate Program Coordinator and serves on the Faculty for the Spring 2013 Semester. She is also the Summer Intensive Coordinator for both Peridance’s Teen Summer Intensive and BLUEPRINT Summer Intensive as well as a member of the School at Peridance Faculty. A devoted advocate for education and the arts, Marlena with her two sisters award scholarships in honor of their mother to at least one prospective college student and at least two young dance artists interested in furthering their educations in dance through the Knowlton Wolfe Scholarship Fund.
