BIOGRAPHY

Jamel “Loose Joint” Brown is a first generation pioneering hip hop dancer and a founding member of Elite Force Crew from Brooklyn, New York. He has over 40 years experience in the dance and entertainment industry having performed on stage, TV, and in films as a choreographer and or backup dancer for renown artists such as Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, Jay-Z, and Will Smith. Loose started his dance journey at the age of 10 on the streets of New York and quickly became a member of The Float Committee and then created The Fantastic Duo who then went on to winning 2nd place on the televised Big Breakdance Contest in 1983. Was also featured in the historic hip hop movie, Beat Street in 1984.

Jamel’s unique style which combine electric boogie (popping, waving, tutting, ticking and gliding) and hip hop party dances, flexibility, smoothness, acrobatics and kung fu influences earned him the nickname, Loose Joint back in early 1992. Loose as a member of Moptop went on to co-found Elite Force Crew with Buddha Stretch and Link on the set of Michael Jackson’s, “Remember The Time” video. Since the late 80’s Loose started his journey as a teacher of hip hop and had short stints subbing a hip hop class at Broadway Dance Center and then began renting studio space at Musical Theatre Works when it was Lafayette Street back in 1989 and later in other Manhattan and Brooklyn studios. Loose Joint is remembered for the iconic park scene in Wreckin Shop with Buddha Stretch and Link as well as in the documentary's club cipher.

Loose has judged and taught workshops at countless international battle events like Dance Delight ’94, Juste Debout 2007, Keep On Dancing 2009-2011, Streetstar 2007 '22-'23, SDF (Hip Hop Forever 2009), SDK, Camp Of Hip Hop 2015, We Are The Future, Dance@Live 2016, and Battle Bad 2022, just to name a few. Occasionally, Loose enters battles like he did in 2022 Hip Hop Forever because he loves the excitement of the game as much as judging battles. He still has the competitive spirit and really enjoys communicating in sport with the younger generation. Loose Joint tirelessly tours the world conducting workshops, lecturing, judging and as a part of his mission to pass down his knowledge of hip hop dance culture to every new generation he has the pleasure of meeting.
