BIOGRAPHY
Award-winning multidisciplinary artists Leonardo & Olga Suarez-Paz are co-directors of Nuevo Tango Arts, PIAZZOLLA100 Festival and the Nuevo Tango Ballet. Leonardo & Olga continue their 4 generations of tango legacy through performances on world’s renowned stages from Teatro Colon Opera House and Centro Cultural Kirchner in Buenos Aires to Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Passionate about education, Leonardo is an Official Academic Representative of “Academia Nacional del Tango in Buenos Aires.” Leonardo and Olga were the Dean’s Artists-In-Residence at NYU and hold guest teaching positions at NYU, Columbia University and The Julliard School’s Night Division among others.
CLASS DESCRIPTION
In each class, participants will work on “forward center,” shared balance, walking technique and the use of disassociation to produce movements from leading to embellishments. Focusing on improvisational lead and follow and musicality we will explore dynamics, styles and steps from basics to giros (turns), sacadas, voleos and ganchos. Find out why artists such as Pina Bausch, Paul Taylor and Julio Bocca have been inspired by Tango and how you can use tango music and dance to enrich your own creative practice.
