BIOGRAPHY
Laura Peterson is a NYC based dance artist creating work that challenges the limits physicality and redefines performance spaces. Laura’s work is influenced by visual art and includes visually stunning installations that are developed simultaneously with the choreography. She has had residencies and commissions throughout NYC and her work has been performed at venues including The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Jacob’s Pillow Inside/Out, Lincoln Center Out-of-Doors, and in Europe and South America. Laura’s choreography has been commissioned by dance companies and universities throughout the US. She has taught technique and improvisation in universities including Princeton, Rutgers and Marymount Manhattan and she holds an MFA in Dance from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. Laura’s technique classes are highly physical and developed from the point of view that specificity, strength and momentum are paramount to the dance artist’s training. Moments of improvisation are seamlessly blended with precisely designed warm-up compositions. This class culminates in a full-bodied dance phrase.
