BIOGRAPHY
Jonathan Manuel Peña who is popularly known as Shwing; began his performance career in the rough and competitive yards of Greek life. He has won numerous step and stroll competitions and later on continued his passion for performing arts by pursuing dance. He then continued his interests in dance where he trained in spaces like EXPG, Broadway Dance Center, Peridance, Kr3t's, as well as trained with choreographers like Fefe Burgos, Carlos Neto, Ant Boogie, J Romeo and more. After numerous years of training he began and is still currently dancing professionally as a commercial tour dancer with Lisa Lisa and has previously worked with artists like Katy Perry, Koryn Hawthorne, Elle Winters and Reggaeton artists like Nicky Jam, El Alfa, Baby Rasta y Gringo and more. He is also affiliated as a brand ambassador for brands like Nike NYC & Snipes and Adidas. “Shwing” has been teaching in commercial spaces in the tristate area as both a Hip Hop and Creative Choreographer where his unique teaching approaches lend as a versatile experience for developing dancers to train. Lastly, within shwing's career he also performed on major televised programming like Telemundo, Univision and several music videos and is currently choreographing Reggaeton where he fuses Dance Hall and Afro accents to hip hop choreography which culminate to the dance genre of Reggaeton. His mission is to introduce Reggaeton as a genre to the commercial American dance spaces to help give it its own identity and ultimately advocate for its authenticity in movement and choreographic approach.
CLASS DESCRIPTION
Shwing's style of teaching varies, he has created an unorthodox style of subconscious teaching techniques that focuses on developing both the subconscious visual aspects of learning as well as the traditional dance approach of chronological description and counts. He has developed this style with not just his experience as an industry dancer but also his background in communication studies and development. His training approaches help connect mind, body and intention within the realm of creative choreography and musicality. He decided to take his hip hop experience and focus on his love for establishing Reggaeton in the tristate area by focusing on building the style and distinguishing the sounds of Latin trap, Commercial Reggaeton, Fusion which all fall under the category of the Reggaeton genre.
