BIOGRAPHY
Donovan Reed (they/them), a Philadelphia native, earned their BFA in dance from The University of the Arts. During their time in college, they became an artist in residence at Die Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt, Germany, and participated in an independent artist program with the Pennsylvania Ballet. Reed has worked with PHILADANCO!, Eleone Dance Theater, and The Rock School for Dance Education. They have been a guest artist, in collaboration with Bare Dance Company, Meredith Rainey, Helen Simoneau, Limón Dance Company, Mayte Natalio, and Gallim. In 2024, Reed was recognized as one of Dance Magazine’s “25 to Watch.” They have been a company member with A.I.M by Kyle Abraham since 2018 and are currently collaborating with Kimberly Bartosik on a new work.
CLASS DESCRIPTION
The class stands to analyze movement phrasing/building at present, through a current for re-understandings, using lived physical sequences, and sequences formed and/or reshape (improvisation) in the moment as a tool of exploration, as a means to share. To configure the individual approach to movement; to examine; to confront. We will look at movement through lenses of imagery, modes of feeling, rhythmic occurrences, happenstance, and otherwise.
