CLASS DESCRIPTION

In this class, we will tap into individual artistic expression, communal groove, and empowered movement. Empowered in the sense that dancers don’t have to leave their baggage at the door and are welcome/encouraged to show up as their fullest selves. We will begin with an improvisational warm up drawing inspiration from a variety of modalities, allowing dancers to connect to their bodies with curiosity and intuition. Warm up always ends with a house music dance party; a way for us to channel freedom, joy, and play as a community. The rest of class will be spent diving into a movement phrase focusing on circular pathways, textural qualities, and musicality. While the phrase is a series of choreographed movements, the emphasis is on each dancer’s individual approach and interpretation. Questions guiding class include: How can we give our bodies what they need? How can we stay curious without judgement? How can the movement phrase be a vessel for our own exploration?
