Come and experience living and dancing in New York City and become a part of
Peridance's vibrant dance community!

Take your dancing to a higher level with world-renowned faculty. Dance side by side with professional NYC dancers in a state-of-the-art facility, in the heart of New York City.

The Certificate Program's objective is to provide a deep understanding of proper technique and performance expression, to foster extensive knowledge of the chosen dance track, and to develop professional attitude. Performance skills are honed through workshops and performances.

The Program offers two tracks: Ballet/Contemporary and Commercial. The individually-tailored curriculum offers a minimum of three classes a day, five days a week, in each concentration, with an emphasis on personal attention and mentoring in order to nurture each student's full potential as a performer and individual. Technique classes are drawn from course offerings designed especially for the Certificate Program to provide a specialized experience for the pre-professional student and also from Peridance open class offerings, which allow the dancers to train alongside NYC and international professional dancers in a dynamic environment.

Ballet/Contemporary Track

Training in this track focuses on the development of strong technical skills in classical ballet (including pointe work), modern (including Horton, Graham and Limón), and the latest innovative contemporary vocabularies. This track also includes speciality classes such as improvisation, composition, and voice.

Commercial Track

This track offers training in Hip Hop (including street jazz, waacking, and voguing), Theater Dance, Jazz (including contemporary and lyrical), and Voice, combined with classes in Ballet and Contemporary styles to develop strong technique and versatility. Emphasis is placed on audition preparation and exposure to agents and dance artists connected to the commercial dance world.

Both Tracks include:

  • 3-4 technique classes per day, 5 days a week
  • Repertory rehearsals with rotating choreographers
  • Performance and choreographic opportunities
  • Contact network-building with top choreographers, teachers, and directors
  • Personal mentoring and guidance
  • Body conditioning classes including Yoga/Pilates/Stretch/GYROKINESIS®

Performances and Choreographic Opportunities

Performing and choreographing are integral parts of a well-developed artistic education and are important components of the Certificate Program at Peridance. The Program allows dancers to transition from the studio to the professional stage by involving all students in numerous professional productions. Beginning in students’ first semester and continuing throughout the Program, students learn original choreography and work exclusively with established artists currently shaping the local and international dance scenes. Students also study the arts of improvisation and composition, and are given the opportunity to choreograph and perform work of their own. Throughout the year, students participate in informal studio showings at regular intervals that are open to the public to show what they have been working on and receive critique.

Performances
Certificate students in both tracks take what they have learned in their technique classes, workshops, and seminars to the the NYC stage each semester. All students are a part of every production. In the Fall, students rehearse for a Winter production in January. In the Spring, the semester culminates in a June Showcase, which marks the end of the academic year. All students work directly and intimately with multiple choreographers who create choreography for the Certificate Program students in several different genres within each track. Past choreographers have included Sidra Bell (contemporary), Alex Sanchez (musical theater), La Jon Dantzler (commercial hip hop), Kristin Sudeikis (lyrical jazz), and Peridance's Artistic Director Igal Perry.
All performances take place at the state-of-the-art Salvatore Capezio Theater at Peridance, a 150-seat blackbox theater. All performances are ticketed and open to the public.

Choreography
Certificate Program students have numerous opportunities to create choreography and perform in the Peridance Student Showcase, hosted at the Salvatore Capezio Theater at Peridance. The Showcase takes place twice a year, in August and February, and is a great platform to express creativity on a NYC stage.
