The 4AM Lab with Bryn Cohn + Artists The 4AM Lab with Bryn Cohn + Artists
Bryn Cohn Aug 29, 2016 - Sep 2, 2016; Mon - Fri

4:00 PM - 6:00 PM

Class Description

In an intimate and rigorous five days, this workshop will be utilized a research lab to excavate brand new phrasework, partnering and movement vocabularies in preparation for BC + A’s newest work, loosely titled 4AM, to premiere in June 2017. The work draws upon raving, pop culture and trance music which we will draw upon in content and atmosphere. Warm up begins with both crafted and improvisational exercises that introduce balletic and modern techniques of yielding to gravity, sequencing, weight shift, speed and articulation. Structured material will explore an expansive qualitative range with emphasis on dynamics as a means of mining fantastical, specific and athletic physical languages. A wide and eclectic array of music is used, anything from electronic to hip-hop to electronic to rock n roll. The dancers are directed to play within rhythmic structures, listening to what they hear as a vehicle to make theatrical and risk – taking choices.

BC + A will be looking for male and female apprentices for the company's upcoming season. For consideration, attendance at the full workshop is highly suggested.

"Bryn Cohn has a brilliant mind...dynamic partnering, stunning moments of visual clarity, a cinematic exploration... Throughout the piece, Cohn takes ideas of the traditional, utopian family and smashes them apart, allowing us to see what lies underneath." Theo Boguszewski // The Dance Enthusiast // March 2016
