    Sun Kim

    Sun Kim

    Popping

    Biography:

Sun Kim was born and raised in South Korea and started dancing with Breaking at the age of 12. A few years later, she fell in love with Popping; the style in which she finds strength and freedom to speak her truth. To pursue her dreams, she moved to New York City in 2011 and since then, she has been doing numerous jobs such as winning Step Ya Game Up world final Popping battle, making it to the top 8 at UK B-Boy championship world final as the USA Popping representative and also performed for 45Degrees/Cirque Du Soleil.

Rather than staying in her comfort zone, she continues to challenge herself in different industries such as commercial jobs for Madonna, Elton John, Phish, Nike, McDonald’s, Golden Goose, and Gap, and also in the theater industry, she presented her own work for Burning Man at Sotheby's, Harlem Stage, Breakin’ Convention as well as performing with Mozaik Dance that she co-founded. Mozaik Dance focuses on storytelling and experimental Popping, and they performed at Jacob’s Pillow, New Victory Theater, San Francisco International Hip Hop Dance Festival, and Mark Morris.

She also is a great teacher and has taught at Princeton University, Peridance Center, Broadway Dance Center, and EXPG NY as well as a producer and director of WHO YOU ARE in New York and South Korea.

    Class Description:

Sun’s class is all about foundations, basics and different styles in popping. The class starts with isolation warmups and dynamic stretching. After that she goes over how to pop properly first then focus on styles and techniques to train for freestyle and a short choreography of the day.
