    Tracie Stanfield

    Contemporary

    Biography:

Tracie Stanfield is an internationally recognized choreographer, instructor and creative consultant. Ms. Stanfield's work has been commissioned throughout the US, South America, Asia and the EU.

Her signature voice as a choreographer has helped create and define contemporary lyrical movement in concert and commercial dance. Dance Magazine calls her classes "inspiring'” and the Huffington Post UK says Tracie "thrilled and mesmerized with her masterful fusion of contemporary and classical dance forms".

Tracie’s choreography has been seen at Symphony Space, The Allen Room/Jazz at Lincoln Center, Dixon Place, SUNY Purchase, PACE University, Bryant Park, Booking Dance Festival in Edinburgh Scotland, The Lion Theatre, The Duke Theatre, Joyce SoHo and Untermyer Park in Yonkers. Tracie is the recipient of The Spirit of Elan Award for her work with SynthesisDANCE.

As an educator, she has been regularly featured in Dance Spirit and Dance Teacher Magazine as well as working with dancers internationally. She is the Artistic Director of the Brooklyn Dance Festival and on the Advisory Board of Young Choreographers' Festival and various dance organizations that promote the future of dance for all audiences. Tracie currently serves as an Artistic Advisor at Mexico City's SietoOcho pre professional training program.

Guest Teaching engagements include: The Rock School, Marymount Manhattan College, Joffrey Ballet’s Contemporary Intensive, Mesa State College, The Pulse on Tour, University of South Carolina, The Gold School, Tapestry Dance Company, Dance Masters of America, Dance Educators of America, NADAA, The Grier School, Bluegrass Stage Dance Festival, International Dance Festival NYC, and internationally at Teatro Danza, Soy Dance & Bway Street (Argentina), KBroadway (Japan), BDC (Tokyo), DJazz (Mexico), Spirit Dance Company (Costa Rica), and Sureste Dance Festival (Mexico).

    Class Description:

Dancers will work on flexibility, strength, range and ease of movement and building / maintaining technique. Working from a strong center, dancers move through the class finding freedom in the use of torso and limbs, finding a sense of dynamics and initiation of movement and finding a sense of breath vs. control.

Born from a foundation in ballet, the warm up is created to be a combination of traditional stretching, center barre and full- bodied movement. The class focuses on allowing each dancer to work to their fullest potential, using technique to allow for efficient and effective communication within the choreography. Whether working in lyrical, contemporary or traditional jazz combinations, dancers are challenged to become magnetic and confident performers.
