    Derek Stratton

    Strength Training

    Biography:

Derek Stratton was born and raised in Norwich, NY. An athlete turned dancer, he received his BA in Dance from SUNY Brockport. He later joined Pilobolus Dance Theatre where he toured internationally for five years. He then went on to the First National Broadway Tour of Warhorse. He became a personal trainer and coach in 2013 and has been coaching in between acting and dance gigs for the past 10 years. The last 3 years has been devoted to primarily coaching with the kettlebell as the ultimate training tool for athletes, dancers and general population as well. Being a conduit for change in other humans through coaching or story telling is the most rewarding state of being for him as an artist.

    Class Description:

The Resiliency in Performance class has been specifically designed for dancers who are looking to enhance their performance and reduce injury. We blend the modern understanding of the body with the ancient physio-tool, the Kettlebell. The Kettlebell is an extremely safe way to add external load to the body while moving in the unique patterns and range of motion that elite dancers do. The offset nature of the Kettlebell will help dancers create joint stability, resilience, and neuromuscular connections that will prolong anyone’s performance career.

The class is broken down into three components: 1) Activation 2) Power 3) Strength

The class is not designed to fatigue the body, but rather prime the muscles and joints for the rest of the day.
