    Teresa Perez Ceccon

    Teresa Perez Ceccon

    Simonson Jazz

    Biography:

Teresa Perez Ceccon is Manhattan-born and Queens-raised by parents from Puerto Rico. Music and dance have been in her blood since childhood, especially Latin and Jazz styles. In her early years of dance training and teaching, she earned a BA in Theater/Dance from Queens College. Later, as a seasoned professional, she obtained an MFA from Montclair State University with a thesis on Latin Jazz Dance.

Working as a dance artist, educator, improvisor and choreographer, Teresa has been a longtime active part of the New York dance world specializing in the Simonson Technique. Her professional teaching career in Manhattan began in 1997 with Simonson Modern Jazz Technique classes at the legendary Dance Space (later Dance New Amsterdam). As a protégé of Lynn Simonson, Teresa has gone on to conduct Simonson workshops and Simonson Method of Teacher Trainings in the U.S. and abroad and is frequently invited to teach by numerous dance studios, organizations and university programs.

Over the years, Teresa has accrued a long list of choreographic achievements performed by students and professionals at a multitude of diverse dance institutions and venues world- wide. As a performer, she has danced on myriad New York City stages for several highly regarded independent choreographers and companies as well as her own. Most recently she choreographed and danced a solo work for the Jazz Choreography Enterprises 15th year anniversary performance project at Peridance in April 2022.

Currently, Teresa teaches virtual dance classes to her global network of students through her online enterprise Lines of Energy. Check out: www.linesofenergy.com In addition, she is in-person at Gibney Dance and Peridance Center teaching weekly Simonson Jazz classes and at the Leonia Senior Center teaching Pilates/Yoga Fusion, Chair Fitness and Chair Yoga/Meditation.

    Class Description:

This class will guide you through an organic approach to Modern Jazz technique emphasizing body alignment, deeper awareness, and greater ease of movement with a focus on developing a stronger sense of rhythm and musicality. Class begins with the Simonson 10-minute signature warm-up designed to methodically prepare the body for dance. This foundation is carried throughout the class’s exercises and combinations. Dancers of all styles can learn how to work within their natural range of motion, preventing predisposition to injury while achieving increased stability and flexibility.
