Gwen Potter
Tap Technique
Biography:
Gwen was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana and for the last ten years has realized her childhood dreams of being a dancer, choreographer, and teacher here in NYC. Gwen received a BA in Dance from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. During her time there, she studied extensively under Jeannie Hill.
Gwen has had the great pleasure of performing on many different platforms within the commercial dance and live stagegenres. Gwen's performance credits include: Good Morning America, Adidas, Alice and Olivia, Harlem Globetrotters, Facebook, Thinx and many more. Gwen also had the great pleasure of studying/performing with Anthony Locascio’s Taplife company.
Gwen’s choreographic work has graced the stage of many reputable venues in the city such as Alvin Ailey, Lincoln Center, Dixon Place, Highline Ballroom, and other dance festivals in the tri-state area.
One of Gwen’s biggest passions is educating the
future
generation of
dancers and inspiring them as her
teachers once did for her. Currently, Gwen is newly
on
faculty as a tap
instructor at Peridance teaching
open level tap to
aspiring tap dancers.Gwen’s passion for teaching
grows
deeper each day
as she delves into an ever
broadening range of dance
styles. She continues to develop her voice as not
only an
educator, but as
a performer and choreographer in
the city of dreams.
Class Descriptions::
Gwen's Philosophy is that any level of experience is welcome, and that students should have a "come and get what you can" attitude. Each class/week is different. Some weeks are more choreography based (spanning from Musical Theater to more Rhythm tap and everything in between). Some classes/weeks are used to work solely on vocabulary, and improvisation. Gwen tries to incorporate the styles she has in her tool belt as well as incorporating the styles in which she is currently inspired.
