    Bethany Perry

    Bethany Perry

    Simonson Technique

    Biography:

Originally from Rochester, NY, Bethany moved to NYC after graduating from SUNY Brockport's Dance department in 2000. She found her dancing niche in NYC in 2011, within the Simonson community of teachers and dancers. She has studied extensively with, and performs for, Diane McCarthy and Laurie De Vito; completed the Simonson Method of Teacher Training with Lynn Simonson; performed the work of Isabel Gotzkowsky, Katiti King, and Ellis Wood in NYC; and recently, had her work presented at Choreography on the Edge. She has been a private Pilates instructor since 2004 and is also on faculty at Gibney Dance Center.

    Class Description:

Dancers are asked to..."Move big. Dig deep. Be loud. Be quiet." Bethany provides a comfortable work/play- space to refine technique and explore new artistic pathways with guidance on musicality, phrasing, and intention. Her movement phrases are technically and dynamically challenging, with a strong focus on where to initiate a movement from for stylistic effect, but also on how to initiate to achieve maximum freedom of movement. Class begins with a Simonson Technique warmup - "an organic approach to movement that prepares the body to dance in a way that is anatomically intelligent and somatically aware" - developed by Lynn Simonson.
