Katie
Oliver
Hip
Hop // School at Peridance Faculty
Biography:
Katie Oliver is a NYC based dancer, teacher, and
choreographer from
Queens, NY of Puerto Rican & Filipino descent. Her diverse
background in dance began at the age of 3 at The
DanceSource
(Rego Park, NY) with Ballet, Pointe, Tap, Jazz & Gymnastics.
Katie
was later accepted to Repertory Company HS for Theatre Arts
as a
dance major, where she trained extensively in several styles
including
Modern, Musical Theater, Hip Hop, African and Latin dance.
Upon
graduation, Katie received a dance scholarship to study as
dance
major at Dean College Dance Conservatory in Franklin,
Massachusetts.
Retuning home to NYC, Katie studied hip hop dance/culture
with Ms.
Robin Dunn at Hunter College. She later became a member of
Keep
Rising To The Top Dance Co. (KR3TS), a Spanish Harlem based
street
dance company, under the direction of Violeta Galagarza. It
was there
where Katie was able to fully immerse herself in street dance
culture,
taking classes from some of the most prominent street dance
performers such as Kim Holmes, Brian Green, Ana Rokafella
Garcia &
Princess Lockeroo.
Katie has taught hip hop and street dance workshops at
Kansas State
University and Connecticut College. As a member of Ladies Of
Hip
Hop Festival she has performed at Summer Stage NYC and the
Alvin
Ailey American Dance Theater. As a member of the all female
street
dance company "Soulsations" she performed at the 2015
Breakin
Convention at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, NYC. Katie has
also
performed at Lincoln Center, Madison Square Garden, Webster
Hall,
and the Barclays Center.
