    Roya Carreras


    Roya Carreras is the founder and artistic director of Roya Carreras + Artists. Inspired by film noir, theater, performance art, and visual art, Roya’s work is rooted in the creation of emotionally and psychologically charged narratives. Her movement investigates impulse, clarity, form, and freedom. In New York City, her works have been presented at the CURRENT SESSIONS, Dixon Place, Reverb Dance at Baruch Performing Arts Center, and The Green Building. In California, her work has been presented at Highways Performance Space, Electric Lodge Theater, Glenn Wallichs Theatre, Diavolo, Brockus Project Space, and BRAVA.

    She trained as a fellowship student at The Alvin Ailey School, then received her degree from UC Irvine’s Claire Trevor School of the Arts. As a performer, she has worked with Lux Boreal Danza Contemporanea in Tijuana (Mexico), Malashock Dance, String Theory Productions, California Riverside Ballet, Intersect Dance Theatre. After attending Springboard Danse Montreal, in 2013 she was an apprentice with BODYTRAFFIC, working closely with Barak Marshall. Most recently, she has performed for Bryan Arias and worked extensively with The Danielle Russo Performance Project.

    Commissions include: CBC at Coumbia University, The Marlbourough School of Arts, Riverside City College, Intersect Dance Theatre, and The University of Redlands.
