    Biography:

MADBOOTS DANCE is an all-male contemporary dance company based in New York City. Artistic Directors Jonathan Campbell (The Juilliard School '10) and Austin Diaz (NYU Tisch School of the Arts '11) co-founded the company in 2011. Most recently, MADBOOTS was named one of Dance Magazine’s “25 to Watch”. Since its inception, the company has presented work nationally and internationally at the 2015 Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival Doris Duke Theatre, Duo Multicultural Arts Center, BAM Fisher Hillman, The 92nd Street Y, David Parker's Soaking Wet Series, Tisch School of the Arts, Toes for Dance (Canada), Alto Jonio Dance Festival (Italy), Dumbo Dance Festival Gala, Strand Center for the Arts and Springboard Danse Montreal (Canada). The New York Times has noted the company's "sharp, elegant movements, dark theatricality and unashamed intimacy…" Campbell and Diaz's choreography has been commissioned by SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Dance, Point Park University, Dark Circles Contemporary Dance and W’Him Whim.

    Work/Artist Statement

It is our mission to question the physicality of artistic expression and push the envelope of movement invention. By creating complex and theatrical environments steeped in athleticism, humor and subtly, the work revels in antithetical aesthetics and uncomfortable realities, often exploring the many facets of the masculine identity. As queer artists, we feel the topic is ever-present in our work, but it is not the sole agenda. Regardless of gender and sexuality, a through line of humanity is integral to the work.
