Since 1983, Peridance Capezio Center's mission has been to foster the arts in its local and international communities. The Center firmly believes that one of its responsibilities as a major New York City dance center is to demonstrate a commitment to giving back. To this end, the Center's students, faculty, and staff have dedicated themselves to making a positive change in their communities.
Peridance provides valuable resources such as classes, workshops, lectures, rehearsal space, performance opportunities, etc. to the dancers, choreographers, and residents of New York City and the world. Additionally, Peridance upholds a long tradition of giving by annually contributing over $100,000 worth of philanthropic activities such as dance scholarships, free classes, monetary donations, free/discounted rehearsal space, and free-admission performances, as well as hundreds of hours of volunteer services to the community.
Peridance recognizes the importance of dance education in the public sector, especially to underprivileged students, by teaching free dance classes/workshops to at-risk youth from numerous organizations around the city. Peridance also invites young students who show promise in class to train on scholarship in the renowned School at Peridance. Merit scholarships are granted annually to pre-professional students to study with Peridance's three professional training programs in order to promote artistic excellence.
