Absolute Beginner Ballet with Mary Burns and Martha Chapman
Martha Chapman
Jun 13, 2017 - Jun 29, 2017; Tue, Thu; Sun
6:00 PM - 7:30 PM
6-session "Intro-to-Ballet" workshop; each 1.5- hour session starts with Pilates for Dancers exercises designed to prepare students for the ballet vocabulary covered that day. Mary is trained in this regimen as cross- training that addresses specific placement, flexibility or strength issues common to dance students regardless of level, but particularly appropriate for beginning students. The students get a hand-out with ballet vocabulary and Pilates exercise regimens each week; material from the ballet lexicon covers beginning barre work, port-de-bras, adagio vocabulary, pirouette technique and a selection of both petit and grand allegro movements.
Workshop Fees
Early Bird Pre-Registration by May 31st: $108.00
Register on/after June 1st: $120.00
Workshop will NOT be pro-rated if student registers after the first day of class. Students cannot use FS classes, Class Cards or Workstudy Cards towards workshop. Workshop must be paid in full at time of registration.

Meet Mary!
An instructor of movement for almost thirty years in both higher education & the professional dance studios throughout NYC, Texas, & Chicago including Dance New Amsterdam (DNA), Ballet Chicago, Joffrey Ballet, & Lou Conte/Hubbard Street Dance, Mary now works with NYC's wellness and dance community regularly in injury prevention/rehabilitation. A perpetual student, Mary has had the pleasure of studying with such masters as Janet Soares, Irene Dowd, Lynn Simonson, Bill Evans, and Karen Clippinger. With a Ph.D. in Dance Education from NYU, she is also certified in Simonson dance technique, Evans/Bartenieff technique, and is a BASI full apparatus Pilates for Dancers Specialist, with the additional PMA certification since 11/2010, and she has been a Pilates addict herself for three decades! Mary's career is dual-fold; assist dancers in technique improvement to decrease rate of injury; and increase teacher knowledge in anatomy, kinesiology & movement analysis, for safer teaching from the start!
