Absolute Beginner Ballet with Joy Karley

If you are longing to try Ballet class but are intimidated by the formality of it all and want to feel prepared, this Ballet intro series can help. The classes will walk you through everything you need to know to help you transition into an open, beginner level Ballet class. Step by step, we will cover everything from how to dress and prepare for class, how to walk in the room and find a space, ballet etiquette, alignment, vocabulary, basic steps, proper biomechanics / technique, class sequence, musicality, how to move about the room, and more. By the end of the series, you will feel more confident to explore beginner ballet classes.
Workshop Fees
Early Bird Pre-Registration by May 31st: $108.00
Register on/after June 1st: $120.00
Workshop will NOT be pro-rated if student registers after the first day of class. Students cannot use FS classes, Class Cards or Workstudy Cards towards workshop. Workshop must be paid in full at time of registration.

Meet Joy!
Joy Karley, MA, PMA-CPT holds a Master's degree in Biomechanics and Athletic Training from San Diego State University and a Bachelor of Science in Modern Dance from Kent State University. Her background also includes extensive training in classical ballet, jazz, tap, Latin, and theater dance. She studied at the School of Cleveland Ballet and has performed with companies in Ohio, California, Washington DC, New Jersey and New York. She has taught students of all ages and abilities, at studios and professional training schools. Joy has developed unique teaching methodology combining artistry with movement science to make the most of a dancer’s abilities. She teaches Ballet, Pointe, Pilates & Foot Conditioning at Broadway Dance Center in New York City. Joy is a Pilates Method Alliance Certified Pilates Teacher (PMA CPT) fully certified in both Pilates Mat and Reformer/Apparatus, and has trained in both contemporary and classical Pilates styles. She was selected by Lolita San Miguel, Pilates Elder, for her Pilates Master Mentor Program. As a Master Trainer, international fitness presenter, and writer for over 20 years, Joy has designed programming and training curriculum for major club chains and for Jazzercise, an international fitness franchising company. She is an AFAA & IFTA Certified Fitness Instructor & Personal Trainer, as well as a Balanced Body Education Faculty member for Pilates, Barre, Motr & Bodhi Suspension System. Joy recently completed the Pfilates (Pelvic Floor Pilates) Instructor Training program and is certified to teach Pfilates Training classes. She trains new Pilates & Barre instructors throughout the US & Internationally. Joy owned Gotham City Pilates in NYC and has maintained her Pilates clientele as well as Pilates & Fitness classes for Plus One Fitness at corporate fitness centers throughout New York City.
