Igal Perry - Artistic Director
Born in Israel, Igal Perry began his dancing career with Karmon, a folk dance company, and later joined the Bat-Dor Dance Company where he worked with leading teachers and choreographers including Inesse Alexandrov, Benjamin Harkarvy, John Butler, Rudi Van Dantzig, Alvin Ailey, Paul Sanasardo, and Lar Lubovitch. Upon arriving in the United States, Mr. Perry joined Dennis Wayne's Dancers as a ballet master and choreographer. During that period, he staged John Butler's work for the New York City Opera, the Opera of Munich, Caracas Ballet, and Teatro Alla Scala in Milan, where he also directed the world premiere of Krzysztof Penderecki's opera Paradise Lost.
Mr. Perry's first full evening of ballets, Chromatic Motions, was presented in 1979, in collaboration with the Manhattan School of Music, presenting works to original music by Rand Steiger, Randy Packer, Edward Billous, and more. In 1981 and 1982, he headed the ballet department at Jacob's Pillow, and went on to co-direct the Clive Thompson Dance Company. In 1983, Mr. Perry celebrated the opening of his dance school Peridance Center, now Peridance Capezio Center, which has since been providing a nurturing and professional environment for all dancers. A year after the opening of his school, he founded his dance company the Peridance Ensemble, now Peridance Contemporary Dance Company, for which he has choreographed over 50 works. Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), The Joyce Theater, and City Center are amongst the many theaters in which the Company has performed through the years. Mr. Perry has collaborated with numerous composers including John Mackey, Quentine Chappetta, Phillip Hamilton, and Avner Dorman, with whom he has created the full length workDreams and Demons (2003).
Mr. Perry's international engagements as a teacher and choreographer include The Scapino Ballet and Het National Ballet (Holland), Laterna Magica and the National Ballet (Prague), Architanz (Tokyo), The Royal Ballet of Sweden, The National Ballet of China, and the Kwang-Ju City Ballet Company (Korea), where he also serves as Artistic Director for the Kwang- Ju International Ballet Competition. Mr. Perry's works are in the repertories of companies throughout the world, including the Batsheva and Bat-Dor Dance Companies (Israel), Companhia de Danca de Lisboa(Portugal), the Alberta Ballet (Canada), Complexions (USA) and Alvin Ailey II (USA). Since 1995, Mr. Perry has been serving as guest master teacher at Juilliard, where he also staged his Intimate Voices, and premiered Mourning Song, created for the Juilliard Dance Ensemble. Mr. Perry's work has been repeatedly presented at the prestigious Florence Dance Festival (Italy) by his Company as well as by Florence Dance Company. In May 2007, Mr. Perry was inducted into the Dance Library of Israel Hall of Fame.
Colleen Megley - Program Coordinator
Colleen Megley, the School Coordinator and teacher within the Young Movers Program, graduated summa cum laude with a BA in Biology and Dance from Connecticut College. While at Connecticut College she studied ballet and post-modern dance under the direction of David Dorfman. Colleen received her Masters in Dance Education and Ballet Pedagogy at NYU in partnership with American Ballet Theatre and is an ABT National Training Curriculum Primary through Level 5 certified teacher. Colleen also teaches the Toddler (Parents & Toddlers, Toddler Dancing), Young Movers (Creative Movement, Creative Ballet, Ballet/Tap Combo) and PeriChild (Pre Ballet, Ballet I, III).
Justine Lee - Assistant Coordinator
Justine graduated from NYU with a B.S. in Media, Culture, and Communication while completing the Certificate Program at Peridance Capezio Center. She continues to perform regularly in New York City for Natalie Johnson Dance and De Funes Dance, most recently also performing works by Milton Myers at the Salvatore Capezio Theater, Crystal Pite at New York City Center, and Robert Battle at the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts. Since completing the Certificate Program at Peridance, she has joined the Peridance team as the Assistant Coordinator for the School at Peridance.
Diego Funes - Youth Ensemble Director
Diego Funes, now the Peridance Youth Ensemble Director, attended the School of American Ballet and later danced with the Cincinnati Ballet and Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. He has performed in and choreographed many theater productions. He is the artistic director of De Funes Dance Company.
Annastasia Confrey - Core Ballet
Annastasia Confrey Annastasia Mercedes is a New York native. From a classical foundation, she went on to begin her professional studies in ballet and modern technique, pedagogy, and dance composition at the Hartt School, under the direction of Stephen Pier. She received her B.F.A in Ballet and Dance Pedagogy while studying under Nina Watt, Hilda Morales, Debra Collins-Ryder, Tim Melady, Samantha Dunster, and Gregory Dolbashian. She has performed in both classical and contemporary works to include choreography by Pascal Rioult, Charlotte Griffin, Martin Losfnes, Stephen Pier, Jose Limon, Martha Graham, George Balanchine, Anthony Tudor, and August Bournonville.
William Blanken - Core and Youth Ensemble Ballet
Billy grew up performing in Dayton, Ohio with the Muse Machine under the direction of Nat Horne and David Duising and dancing at the Gary Geiss School of Dance. He graduated with honors from Ball State University with majors in Acting and Dance Performance. He started his professional career as a principal with the Amy Marshall Dance Company before he joined Les Ballets Grandiva. Billy has taught at the School at Steps on Broadway, the East Village Dance Project, Ball State University, Wright State University, the Gary Geiss Dance School, SUNY Purchase with isadoraNOW
Kelly Hayes - Core Ballet
Ms. Hayes has over 10 years of teaching experience working with students from age 3 through professional levels. She is currently on faculty at Peridance Center, Alvin Ailey American Dance Center, and the Stable in New York and STEPS Academy in Stamford, Connecticut. Kelly teaches within our Young Movers and Ballet Program. Her classes are disciplined in a very structured yet fun way. She encourages young dancers to find their love of dance through their own motivation and hard work.
Nikki Holck - Core Ballet
Nikki Holck is from Honolulu, Hawaii where she began her dance training at Queen Emma Ballet. She continued her studies on scholarship at North Carolina School of the Arts. Nikki graduated from Canada's National Ballet School, where she also completed her post secondary studies. Upon graduation, she joined the National Ballet of Canada. She moved to New York to join Peridance Contemporary Dance Company under the direction of Igal Perry. Nikki has had the opportunity to perform in a variety of contemporary and classical works, including pieces by Jiri Kylian, William Forsythe, Korhan Basaran, Bryan Arias, and Igal Perry. She is currently a freelance artist in New York working in collaboration with artists of different fields in addition to performing and teaching abroad with Korhan Basaran and Artists. Nikki is the Certificate Program Coordinator and the Blueprint Intensive Coordinator at Peridance Capezio Center.
Graciela Kozak - Core and Youth Ensemble Ballet
Graciela Kozak was born in Argentina, and trained at the Teatro Colon of Buenos Aires. She danced with the Bat-Dor and Bat- Sheva companies in Israel, and the Peridance Ensemble in NY. She has performed works by Alvin Ailey, Paul Taylor, Jiri Kylian, Mark Morris, Igal Perry, Lar Lubovich, Donald McKayle and many other choreographers. Graciela joined the Peridance Faculty in 1985, and the faculty of the Ailey School in 2002. She has taught classes for Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Ailey II, Ballet Tech, Complexions, Donald Byrd, Pascal Rioult, the School of Ballet Hispanico and Ballett Akademien in Sweden.
Tyler Gilstrap - Core and Youth Ensemble Modern
Tyler Gilstrap (Danville, VA) earned her BFA in Dance from Southern Methodist University. She was a founding member of Battleworks Dance Company (2001- 2010), under the direction of Robert Battle. Recently, she was the associate choreographer for the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games Opening Ceremony. She was also the assistant choreographer for the film; 'Love And Other Drugs' and for the Italian San Remo TV Award show for three years in a row. She has choreographed music videos for the artist Son Lux, Skyes, FireHorse and SENIT. In 2012, she started her own performance group called TunanuT. TunanuT has created and performed for such events as the Panoramic Music festival , Big Data 2015 tour, (Un)Scene art show, Ballroom Marfa, The Feast, and The Windmill Factory. As a dancer, she has been featured in such films as 'Across the Universeâ€™, 'The Wackness,' and the Italian TV show 'Amici.' She has been a guest artist with the Bavarian State Opera, Irish Modern Dance Theater, Azure Barton, New York Theater Ballet, Corbin Dances, and Amy Marshall Dance Company. As a teacher, Tyler has taught improv, contemporary, and modern dance in Russia, Romania, Germany, Hungary, Italy and throughout the USA. She also has been on faculty at Montclair State University, Joffrey Ballet School and Peridance Capezio.
Nicole Wolcott -Youth Ensemble Modern
Nicole Wolcott is a choreographer, teacher and performer based in Brooklyn, NY. Nicole has enjoyed a long career with dance companies, rock bands and video artists around the country and been the subject of a feature article DANCE TEACHER magazine. After creating their signature work, Straight Duet, together in 2002, Larry Keigwin and Nicole co-founded KEIGWIN + COMPANY in 2003; She was the Associate Artistic Director and a featured dancer until 2013. Nicole continues to assist Larry on a variety of projects outside of the company's framework; most recently the Broadway production of If/Then starring Idina Menzel, The work closest to her heart is creating Boleros in communities around the country with Larry, based on their large scale signature work with 50 New York community members "Bolero NYC." Wolcott's choreography has been performed at a range of venues from The Kennedy Center to CBGB's with critical acclaim.
