Community Outreach
Peridance Contemporary Dance Company has a strong commitment to bringing dance to places where it is needed most, to communities that seldom have access to this artform. Through the years, the Company has worked in collaboration with such notable organizations as New York Cares, New Alternatives for Children, The American Red Cross, Free Arts for Abused Children, Greenwich House, New York AIDS Coalition, the Free Arts for Abused Children Project, and as recently as this Fall with Dancers Responding to AIDS and the Latino Commission on AIDS in New York City.
The Company helps diverse charitable organizations in their fundraising efforts by donating dance performances. It also contributes to youth education through workshops, lecture demonstrations, and classes.
Through its outreach activities, the Company serves as a model for Peridance Capezio Center's junior company, Peridance Youth Ensemble. The Youth Ensemble is an outstanding group of talented and committed teenage dancers from within the School at Peridance, carefully selected to be part of this not-for-profit performance and outreach troupe. These young dancers are cultivated through the School to generously extend their knowledge and love for dance through performances, interactive workshops, and seminars provided to at-risk communities.
Peridance Youth Ensemble
About
Peridance Youth Ensemble was founded in 2000 as a natural extension of the professional non-profit Peridance Contemporary Dance Company. The talented Ensemble dancers, ages 15-18, are trained extensively within The School at Peridance's Pre-Professional Training Program and enjoy multiple performance opportunities, representing both Peridance Capezio Center and the main Company in their outreach activities.
Mission
Peridance Youth Ensemble has two major goals:
- To provide dance training of the highest caliber to young dancers, preparing them for a professional career in dance.
- To make the art of dance accessible to at-risk youth, through free performances, interactive workshops and seminars.
