OPEN DAILY GAGA CLASSES FOR DANCERS AND NON-DANCERS

Due to changes in the structure of Gaga USA and a lack of available teachers in New York, we are announcing a change in the schedule for our classes at Peridance. Starting in January 2012, Gaga activity in New York will take place only in the form of master classes, workshops, and intensives.

We would like to thank all of you who took part in the classes and shared with us the pleasure of movement and research. We invite you to follow our activities and updates at gagapeople.com and on Peridance.com.

We promise to stay in touch and offer classes with Ohad Naharin and other teachers during the upcoming year and hope to see you with us soon.

Until then, best wishes for a great New Year.
-Danielle Agami, Gaga USA

What is Gaga?!

Gaga is a movement language developed by Ohad Naharin in Israel to help dancers and non-dancers alike reconnect to the way they move. Gaga is a unique form of dance where emphasis is placed on sensations rather than positions to allow for a more experiential practice. It encourages authenticity as well as joy in movement. The technique emphasizes tension release, harnessing your imagination, finding your own passion for movement, and understanding the body as a source of power and energy. This can help anyone explore their weaknesses and break out of bad habits.

Lewis Segal, a dance critic from the LA Times wrote: “...Israeli choreographer Ohad Naharin's millennial modern dance training system, Gaga, made his Batsheva Dance Company of Israel into heralds of a future that promises unprecedented levels of articulation and mutability.”
Deborah Galili of DanceinIsrael wrote: "There's something magical about these classes. They challenged me to more thoroughly explore the underlying concepts of ... movement ... and enabled me to research these ideas while connecting more consciously to my body's knowledge of ... dance forms."
Jessica Green of Dance Consortium wrote: "Having an insight into the thinking and workings of Ohad Naharin and the Batsheva Dance Company members who teach Gaga was truly a privilege... Gaga has definitely influenced the way I think about dancing and the experience of the body. I found there is a freedom to move the way you want, and yet not to neglect your technique."
