    Lydia Johnson

    Bio

Lydia Johnson is originally from Massachusetts and founded Lydia Johnson Dance in 1999. Her distinctive choreography seamlessly fuses ballet and modern dance vocabularies and captures a sense of the depth and spirit of the human struggle. Her work is profoundly linked to the music to which it is set. Ms Johnson has taught choreography in many New York venues and at arts centers in New Jersey. LJD is funded by The Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation and presents an annual New York season at the Ailey Citigroup Theater. Esteemed dance writer Jennifer Dunning has commented in The New York TImes: “In dance that challenges the mind as well as the heart, Lydia Johnson often isolates and reworks components of classical ballet technique to create a sense of life flowing unhurriedly over mysterious human stories.”
