    Jason Cianciulli

    Contemporary Floorwork

    Biography:

Jason joined VIM VIGOR in his last year of studies at SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Dance. Since receiving his BFA he has taught at many institutions on behalf of VIM, including the Juilliard School, NYU Tisch, the University of Michigan, Barnard College and Columbia University. Additionally he has collaborated with Shannon Gillen on creations for LA Dance Project, Gibney Dance Company and Springboard Danse Montreal. Jason performs in Sleep No More with PunchDrunk NYC and will be teaching with Gillen at SUNY Purchase and Princeton University this year.

    Class Description:

In this we will use Floorwork as a vehicle to search for functional movement patterning. We will work through exercises that challenge and enhance our proprioceptive sensitivity. In an effort to increase movement variability. This will progress through a Floorwork methodology that aims to identify truths in the body. Supporting us in the search for a sustainable and efficient movement practice. Improvisation will be used to provoke adaptability in the face of obstacles. We will utilize phrase work to challenge our memory in understanding and recalling new coordinations. The goal is to provide resources for the development of the student’s own research and practice. And to invoke a sense of play when confronting chaos and complexity.
