    Melissa Brading

    Limón

    Biography:

Melissa Brading is a New York based teacher, dancer and choreographer originally from Topeka, KS. She holds a BFA in dance education from the University of Central Oklahoma and spent 3 years dancing for Ad Deum Dance Company in Houston, TX before moving to New York in 2007. Melissa has danced for choreographers such as Hope Boykin, Nejla Yatkin, Amanda Selwyn, Chris Ferris and Sarah Council and is currently working with Avodah Dance Ensemble and Sue Bernhard Danceworks. She has taught various styles of dance in Kansas, Texas, Michigan, New York and The Netherlands.

She has studied the Limón technique for a number of years and completed the Limón Workshop for Teachers led by Alan Danielson and the Advanced Workshop for Teachers led by Roxane D'Orleans Juste. Melissa works for The Joyce Theater Foundation and also makes dances of her own when the two magical forces of time and space come together.

    Class Description

The Limón technique is based upon the movement style and philosophy of theater developed by modern dance pioneers, Doris Humphrey and Charles Weidman. We will use Limón principles to find freedom in our joints, connection to the earth, suspension in the body, and texture in movement.

As a beginner level class, we will take time to repeat movement phrases and leave room for questions and exploration. We generally work with similar class material for 4 weeks, so students have time to grow into the material presented. This is a great supplement to other dance styles- all are welcome!
