    Biography:



    Sekou McMiller made his NYC Off-Broadway and international tour debuts with Celia the Musical. Sekou’s unique style of Latin dance is rich with Afro-Caribbean essence and laced with techniques from many genres of dance. This, combined with his explosive energy on and off stage, has earned Sekou’s dancing and instructing recognition world-wide. Sekou has over 10 years of instructing and performing at Latin Dance Congresses all over North and South America, Europe, and Asia. He has conducted master classes in New York, Chicago, LA, Seoul, Tokyo, San Diego, Seattle, Beijing, Singapore, Mumbai, Miami, Shanghai, Toronto, Dallas, Boston, Manchester, Warsaw, Mexico City, Puerto Rico, Rome, and many other international hubs of dance.

    Sekou is the Founder and Director of Descarga Caribe (Chicago) and Proyecto Descarga (NYC), and is a member of Actor’s Equity Association and The “Torres Emerging Aristic Company” (NYC).


    Class Description



    At the forefront of a new movement in the Latin dance world, Sekou’s unique and exciting style of Contemporary Latin Jazz Fusion introduces Latin rhythms and techniques deeply rooted in the Caribbean (Salsa/Mambo, Cha-cha-cha, Rumba, etc...) while blending with urban dance, modern, jazz and contemporary styles. A marriage of technique and rhythm. Structurally derived from traditional Ballet/Jazz classes and pilates practices, Sekou's warm-up guides the dancers through breathing and fluid movement exercises that strengthen technique, musicality and flexibility. All the while breaking down the intricacies of Latin Dance rhythms, movements and attitude. The across the floor combos gets the dancers moving with turns and jumps using authentic Latin moves promoting spacial awareness, power and presence. Class choreography includes movements covered during class fused with various mainstream styles from urban to contemporary dance. Always explosive and theatrical in nature these smooth moves combinations are designed to further prepare the dancer for the demands of an ever growing versatile dance world.
