    Jon Rua


    Jon’s commitment, versatility, perseverance, and talent has accelerated his well rounded career. Jon Rua has starred on Broadway as ‘Jesus Pena’ in the new musical Hands on a Hardbody as well as ‘Sonny’ in the Tony Award Winning Broadway musical In The Heights. Additional theatre credits include: Somewhere at The Old Globe (Craig Noel Leading Actor Nomination), Bring It On The Musical (World Premier), Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity (Second Stage- Pulitzer Prize nominated), Damn Yankees (Encores!), Pirates!(MUNY). Workshops: Solid Sand Below(Atlantic Theater), Hands on a Hard Body(La Jolla), Sundance Theatre Lab (Banff 2011), Fly, Bare, Stardust Ballroom, All Fall Down (Intar), Kingdom (Public Theatre), Lincoln Center’s American Songbook. TV: “Law & Order”. Film: “Fall to Rise”. Jon has danced for such artists as Don Omar, Soulja Boy, and more as well as commercial credits including Target, BillBoard, Puma, IBM, Panasonic and more. As a choreographer, his work has been seen on the Brooklynettes, Walla Walla Festival, Broadway Bares, CBS, MTV, Award- Winning Webisode ‘Chaos Theory’ and Off-Off Broadway in “Union Square”. He has assisted on such projects: Bring It On-The Musical, Hands on a Hardbody, In The Heights, Flashdance, Fly, NYCC’s ENCORES The Wiz, and Insanity.     Class Description

    Jon's style and interpretation of Hiphop/Funk bring about a refreshing style of choreography. His style is very versatile, hard-hitting yet smooth, high energy, creative, theatrical, strong musicality, and engaging. The movement embodies emotion and behavior with a strong hiphop sensibility, embracing one's organic movement. The class is for any dancer: jazz, musical theater, hiphop, or straight freestyler. The class is focused on helping dancers not only strengthen their retention of choreography and awareness of the fundamentals of Hip- Hop dance, but to encourage the development and understanding of their unique personal movement. Enhancing their connection to the choreography. Be ready to tell a story with your body and deliver the music in a way you had yet to imagine.
