In preparation for its upcoming Spring Season, Peridance Contemporary Dance Company presented a program that included sumptuous Spanish flavored "El Amor Brujo," an excerpt of Igal Perry's "Constructs for 4," a technical accomplishment originally choreographed for the world-renowned Complexions Contemporary Ballet, and the premiere of a new work by Peridance's own Kristin Sudeikis. The Company was also joined by the Peridance Youth Ensemble performing a new work by Gregory Dolbashian! |

Baila Society Performance and Social

Baila Society collaborates with Peridance to host fantastic nights of dancing, music, socializing, and of course, Salsa! The performances showcase the hard work and dazzling moves of the BASo Performance Class, as well as the professional polish of the Baila Society Repertory Company. After the performance, the audience joined the dancers for an evening of salsa dancing with a live DJ. You can get in on the action by joining a BASo Performance Class! The Nutcracker: a Contemporary Look

Last Winter, Peridance Capezio Center proudly presented an original version of The Nutcracker, conceived, directed, and choreographed by renowned Choreographer Igal Perry. This contemporary version returned for a second year to delight audiences with a brand new take on a perennial classic danced by Peridance Contemporary Dance Company, Peridance's resident professional company, young students from The School at Peridance, the Certificate Program, and the International Student Programs. |

Film Screening: Check Your Body at the Door

Check Your Body at the Door is a large-scale film project involving 30 years (and counting) of shared relationships and histories of the underground club House dancers beginning in the 1980s and early '90s. Filmed during the golden decade of the 1990s, it follows a core group of master free-stylists to the clubs, to their jobs, and in their everyday lives, including Peridance's own Archie Burnett, Brahms “Bravo” LaFortune, Brian “Footwork” Green, Ejoe Wilson, Marjory Smarth. Love Art Japan Benefit

Peridance joined with Double Take Dance company, led by Peridance instructor Ashley Carter, to produce a performance filled with dance and music to benefit the Japanese Earthquake and Tsunami disaster survivors. Peridance Capezio Center presents bi-annual Student Showcases that puts the creativity and artistry of our students on stage! The performances bring together groups and solos, live music and poetry, and styles ranging from Ballet to Samurai to Aboriginal fusion. Students from the International and Certificate Programs perform alongside those who take Peridance's open classes for a truly memorable performance. The Showcases offer a perfect opportunity for artists within the Peridance community to express themselves artistically, and for audience members to get a glimpse of what the Center is all about. |

Summer Intensive Performance

Every year, Peridance Capezio Center offers an intensive four-week Summer program designed for teens, ages 12-17 years, to acquire technical skills, artistry, and performance experience in Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Musical Theater, and more! The Ladies of Hip Hop is an elite group of female artists from around the world that puts women center-stage. Peridance is the home of the Ladies of Hip Hop Festival in NYC, which highlights these amazing female artists! The festival included a weekend filled with open classes, with a performance featuring many of the workshop instructors and performers who are leading today’s hip hop dance scene. |

National Dance week held its culminating performance at the Salvatore Capezio Theater at Peridance! The exciting show included Tap, Polynesian dance, Ballet, Modern, Japanese TAIKO Drum & Tap Dance, Contemporary, Flamenco, and Hip Hop! The Baila Society, along with Igal Perry, Djoniba Dance and Drum Centre, Cecilia Marta, Nelida Tirado, La Jon Dantzler and others, presented " Bailando por una Causa" an amazing evening of dance where proceeds benefited the Latino Commission on AIDS. |

Dance Parade

The 4th Annual New York City Dance Parade kicks off Saturday, May
22nd,
from 21st street and Broadway, through Union Square to Tompkins Square
Park. Get ready to shake, shimmy, and samba (or watch from the sidelines)
with 10,000 parade participants representing over 70 dance styles from
around the globe - ballet to Bulgarian, Capoeira to contra, bellydance
to ballroom dance, zydeco to zouk. Even roller disco!
The parade starts at 1PM at 21st street, as dancers and floats shimmy,
tap, twirl and hustle down Broadway, and then swings east onto Saint Marks,
flowing right into Tompkins Square Park. The park is where the whole shindig
culminates into a rockin dance party, complete with stage and individual
performances and free lessons in a myriad of dance styles.

Declared an official, annual celebration by Mayor Bloomberg in 2004, Immigrant Heritage Week honors the vibrant immigrant cultures, heritages and communities found in every corner of the City. Peridance is proud to host public event with classes demonstrations and performances on Wednesday, April 21, at Union Square alongside Baila Society and Djuniba Dance & Drum Centre. |

PeriChild Spring Fundraiser |
On Saturday, April 17th & Sunday, April 18th Peridance Capezio Center opened up its doors to several young and professional dance companies for their 10th Spring Fundraiser!
All proceeds go directly towards out-reach non-profit children's dance company, Peridance Youth Ensemble. This was the first performance we have had in our brand new Salvatore Capezio Theater and it was a huge success. The Peridance Youth Ensemble performed works by Diego Funes, Sean Curran and a re-staged version of Martha Graham's, "Steps in the Street" originally choreographed in 1939. Other performers for this diverse event were Young Dance Collective, Dancewave Company, Harkness Repertory Ensemble, Steffi Nossen Dance Company, Diego Funes Dance Company, the Limon Professional Studies Program, Sean Curran Company and Baila Society. It's an event you won't want to miss next Spring!

The Peridance Youth Ensemble performed in the Annual Dancers Responding to AIDS event, Stars of Tomorrow on Sunday, February 21st, 2010 at The Performing Arts Center at SUNY Purchase College, alongside many other talented young dancers from the
tri-state area.
Together these companies help raise awareness and funds to help actors, dancers & artists suffering from HIV/AIDS. This is an event we do every year without hesitation and this year the Ensemble raise just over $1000 for this event. Congratulations dancers! |

Open House |
The School at Peridance opened its doors for our exciting Spring Open House on Sunday, January 24th. There were sample dance classes including African taught by Djoniba Dance Center, Salsa taught by Baila Society, Samurai Sword Fighting taught by Yoshi Amao, Creative Movement taught by Naoko Moriyama & Tap taught by Tamara Saari. Along with the festive dance classes, Peridance offered a great sampling of snacks and beverages (pizza donated by PIE by the Pound) as well as gift bags to all attendants and fun fun fun! You won't want to miss next year's Open House. |
