The School at Peridance - PeriChild Program

Educational Community Outreach

Since 1983, Peridance Capezio Center's mission has been to foster the arts in its local and international communities. The Center firmly believes in its responsibility, as a major New York City dance center to demonstrate a commitment to giving back. Accordingly, for the past 10 years Peridance children and youth programs have continued to make the art of dance more accessible to at-risk youth through community outreach work.

Public and Private School Partnerships.
With the growing need for arts education in public and private schools in all communities, PeriChild and PeriTeen programs have become increasingly more instrumental in providing these needed services. According to each school’s needs, this program offers a high quality 10-week customized curriculum, which culminates in a final presentation! These dance activities provide an unparalleled outlet for young children to express themselves, develop self-confidence and utilize their endless energy while enhancing their academic studies.

Afterschool and Community Interactive Workshops.
Offered by the Peridance Youth Ensemble, these special workshops are geared for at-risk youth and are designed to inspire artistic expression and love of dance while helping young participants define individuality, confidence, and self-respect.
Through these important mentoring workshops, participants learn to use their bodies, communicate through dance, tell a story with movement and experience the freedom and exhilaration of self-expression. In this process participants gain a positive outlook on life and respect for themselves, others and the arts!

Peer Performers Program
Throughout the year, Peridance Youth Ensemble participates in various performances in and around New York City, helping to raise awareness and funds for various benefits and non-for-profit organizations, including Dancers Responding to Aids, Free Arts New York City and Brooklyn Arts Exchange.

Donations
Peridance provides valuable resources such as classes, workshops, lectures, rehearsal space, and performance opportunities to the dancers, choreographers, and residents of New York City and the world.
